Gender Sensitisation Training Programme Organized by Odisha State Open University
Sambalpur :A family is regarded as educated ,when a woman gets educated. Only an educated family is the backbone of the community-this is the message brought to you by Odisha State Open University through the conducted training programme on Gender Sensitization. The programme was organized in GM University ,Sambalpur .While inaugurating the programme , Dr Srikant Mohapatra ,Vice Chancellor , Odisha State Open University explained the role of women in nation building ,pre and post independence . It is very evident from the life history of those women ,from Rani Laxmi Bai to Astronaut Kalpana Chawla . While modern women is reaching to moon , today also many women remain in the circle of superstitions. Unfortunately, today women are mostly unsafe in our society . Despite the existence of stringent laws , the crimes of sexual violence towards girl child are increasing at an alarming rate. It can be only checked through the sensitization of future generation.Dr. Jayanta Kar Sharma ,Registrar , Odisha State Open University has strongly advocated for women empowerment .He also added that the main hindrance is the social perception towards women , which is restricting many meritorious girls from getting higher education. Today also a girl is fighting for her higher education ,with her family as well as society .Now Odisha State Open University has come forward to fulfill their higher education aspirations.
This is the day ,where two of the sessions include “Social Status of Women in Odisha” , “Women & Child policy 2014” ,” Policy related to protection of women from domestic violence” “Sexual Harassment in Workplaces” ,”Human Trafficking and Child Marriage Issues” and “ Different Government introduced programmes on women and girl child” .The programme was graced by resource persons like Dr. Prabhbati Guru ,Deputy Director , Regional Directorate of Education , Dr. Nirupama Badapanda , Ex-Principal of Dr PM Institute of Advanced Study in Education, Sambalpur , Ms Bishakha Bhanja ,Regional Manager , Water Aid and Ms Lalita Mishal ,State Coordinator ,National Alliance of Women. Many students from GM University , Women’s College ,Sambalpur and students of Odisha State Open University participated in the training programme. Dr Bilas Chandra Montry ,Academic Consultant (Rural Development) coordinated the programme with cooperation from other Academic Consultants and staff members of Odisha State Open University ,Sambalpur.
