WALKATHON – AN AWARENESS MARCH ON DISABILITY RIGHTS BY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SECURITY & EMPOWERMENT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITY, GOVT OF ODISHA

On the occasion of World Disabled Day which is observed on 3 December every year, Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disability, Govt. of Odisha organized organized “Walkathon – An awareness march on disability rights from Rajmahal Square to Adivasi Padia ( Adivasi Ground), Bhubaneswar.
It is important to integrate disabled persons in the main stream of society. Disabled persons are often discriminated against and that is never an ideal condition. Society must take adequate steps to involve persons with disabilities in the main stream of each aspect of the social, political, economic and cultural status of their communities.
Mr. Ashok Panda, Hon’ble Minister of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Public Enterprises, Science and Technology, Govt. Of Odisha inaugurated the Walkathon in presence of Mr Ananta Narayan Jena, Hon’ble MLA, Bhubaneswar, Central. Mr Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma, Secretary, Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disability, Govt. of Odisha, Smt Bratati Harichandan, Director, Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disability were present on this occasion.
More than 1500 disabled persons participated in this Walkathon to create awareness among the public about the development of disabled community & to promote the schemes undertaken by the Govt. for the disabled.
The Walkathon witnessed the participation of students from all special schools along with all disabled associations
