Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the Odisha government has said that the South Korean steel giant, POSCO can resume work on the acquired land near Paradip anytime it wishes.

POSCO has already acquired 2000 acres of government land during the acquisition process run by the Odisha government. The company will set up a 12-million tonne steel plant near Paradip.

Amidst stiff opposition from the anti-POSCO activists during land acquisition and repeated obstructions at the construction site, the fate of POSCO project hangs in balance.

The issue of renewal of the MoU with POSCO has also become a bone of contention between the company and Odisha government. Chief Secretary BK Patnaik said that the issue is being looked upon by the Law department.
